Earlier this month we sent Guy, our resident virtualisation guru, to Melbourne for a Amazon Web Services (AWS) hands-on training session.

Highlights of the course according to Guy: 

I particularly enjoyed building autoscalling clusters. Terminated instances would be automatically replaced by new ones, additional instances would be launched if the system load was exceeded and torn down if the system load diminished.

And…

Launching entire clusters of servers and services using cloudfront was also great fun. Cloudfront allows you to describe multiple RDS, Auto-Scaling-Groups, Elastic-load-balancers and EC2 instances and launch all of them in a single click.
